A special thanks to:
Chuck Smetana - Mars, PA - For educating me in the world of pre
print
production and color separations.
Ron MacDonald - Wexford, PA - For producing the excellent design
graphics for
many of these prints, including the Take A Hike & Daydream
Trail series.
Some of these posters are the result of several of my photos being
joined together in a preconceived manner for dramatic effects.
Its Ron's Photoshop expertise that makes that all possible.
Steve Mobley - New Kensington, PA - For his super designs in the
scripted
Pennsylvania series.
About the photography-
Many of the images on this site were taken in an area that is known locally as the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. Rounded mountain ridges with hills on hills are the norm. It is beautiful forest country with foggy hollows and exquisite vistas. Trout Fishing, Skiing, Golf, and White Water Rafting are synonymous with the Laurel Highlands. Three southern Pennsylvania counties comprise the Highlands, Somerset, Westmoreland, Fayette. I have recently moved from Westmoreland County to Somerset County.
About the photography-
Many of these landscapes are a collection of images that are produced from a region that is the childhood homeland of Rachel Carson, who is universally considered to be the founder of the modern environmental movement in the United States. Many of the images were captured on or near property that was once the Carson farm in Springdale, Pennsylvania. The residence of that farm is now distinguished with a historical marker and open for environmental education purposes as the Rachel Carson Homestead.
The prints available on this site are reproductions of photography
by Stephen
Simpson, Export, Pennsylvania. All of the photography was
done in the Western
foothills, or in the Appalachian Mountains. Some were taken as far
North as the
Allegheny National Forest, and as far South as West Virginia. More
about the
specifics of my equipment further
down the
page.
What are these "Photo Art Prints":
The majority of these "prints" are printed on 80 pound or 100 pound cover
stock using fade
resistant inks and a UV protective final varnish. These are open edition
prints which
were printed in batches of several hundred for some, and as many
as three thousand
for others. I will be happy to sign any of these prints if requeasted
They are not
numbered limited edition prints, but many of my clients treat them
as investments.
I generally
call my reproductions "Art Prints" or"Photo Art Prints".
Those in the Gallery and Framing business
generally call this
type of reproduction an "Open Edition Print" as opposed to a "Limited Edition
Print".
The term "Lithograph" is generally used to define a limited edition
art
reproduction, printed on an archival stock using
the latest
permanent fade resistant inks, and being signed and numbered by
the artist. These
"prints" often have a light UV protective coat as the last ink to
protect them from
fading. These prints are often purchased with investment interests.
Most of the prints represented on this page should be considered to be of
"Lithograph
Quality" in every respect, except that they are "Open Edition Prints"
In other words they are not limited editions.
